The attack followed another offensive in Kebbi that left 33 cattle herders dead.
On Monday, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, President of the African Union (AU) Commission, condemned the terrorist attacks in Zamfara, where armed individuals killed at least 50 people and kidnapped women and children.

The AU categorically rejected terrorism and violent extremism against civilians, noting that these acts constitute grave human rights violations and threaten peace, security, and stability on the continent.
Youssouf demanded the immediate, safe, and unconditional release of all those kidnapped. He also urged the strengthening of coordinated action between Nigeria and its African partners to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent the recurrence of “similar atrocities” in the future.
The attack took place on Friday in Dutsin Dan Ajiya, where dozens of armed men on motorcycles stormed in and surrounded the village entrances and exits. They blocked access and began to fire indiscriminately at the residents.
The attack followed another offensive in the state of Kebbi that left 33 cattle herders dead and brought the death toll in northwestern Nigeria to more than 80 in just a few days.
Youssouf conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed the AU’s unwavering support for the efforts of the Nigerian government to restore peace and address insecurity.
Nigeria has faced years of violence from the jihadist group Boko Haram and its faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), as well as from criminal gangs known as “bandits,” who carry out mass kidnappings for ransom.
